Rhonda L. Deeg, owner of RLD Glass Art & Restoration, has over 30 years of glass work and trades experience, operating this small studio/shop with a life long passion for art and glass.

With artisan influences from both of Rhonda's parents as well as an art, interior design, construction and historic preservation experiences, creativity and problem solving occurs daily in the studio. Colored glass has been apart of Rhonda's life for over 50 years.

Parallel to Rhonda's glass work, is teaching. Teaching hands-on trades and working with "kids of all ages" has always been important to her career. She has spoken at many workshops, conferences and written many articles on the subject.

Three rescue cats (as seen on the last page) also share our home, shop/studio space. They sure make our daily routines interesting and scheduled as they keep a close eye out on what goes on with every project!

Approach

An art glass piece in any building (historic or new) is like no other medium to me. It combines light, color, design, texture, and pattern into one element. I am  passionate about my work and understand how important is it to conserve and maintain historic works of art so that future generations can also enjoy.

When restoring or repairing historic art, stained or leaded glass, my philosophy is to address only what is necessary using more of a conservation approach.  Assessment and documentation is the first step to determine the correct course of action for the glass, whether that be full or partial restoration, replication, repair and/or maintenance. A proposal is then created, explaining the project plan and process. Upon acceptance, work begins. Time is taken to make sure the work is quality and periodic checks of completed projects helps to keep a standard of quality control.

Additional Crew

The additional crew of restoration contractors who help us with removal, installation, sash restoration, exterior storms and scaffolding are highly qualified in their fields.  We support "local" and believe that using a few select contractors help to keep things quality controlled as well.

Other Art

I am a glass artisan, but have other hobbies that are art related.  I LOVE to repurpose items and create eclectic art!  I believe in being as eco-friendly as possible with the business as well as in my daily life. Its fun to use glass and mix it with ceramics, plaster, metal, wood and hot glass to create new things!

Newly discovered round elements, unique details and organic shapes found during my travels always send me to the drawing or light table!  Add kiln work, mosaic tile, etching and engraving to the mix and more art is created in the studio.

New design commissions of glass panels or mosaics, follow from inspiration of the love of organic forms, stylized details and historic architecture.
